Newmarket is turning 300 in 2027! To celebrate our birthday, we have gathered 103 stories into a beautiful, commemorative coffee table book. Subjects range from the Ice Age to the future of the Lamprey River, from the Abenaki to Zion’s Hill, from a small weaver’s knot to the world’s largest game of pick-up sticks! There are accounts of heroism, tales of murder most foul, chronicles of historical curiosities, anecdotes from folks who saw history happen, and fires – so many fires! Nearly four years in the making, with the distinct voices of more than seventy authors, these 103 essays – each accompanied by a full-page illustration – capture the heart and soul of our unique town on the banks of the Lamprey River.

Portraits of Newmarket: 103 People, Places, & Things will be officially launched on November 16, 2026, with a gala celebration at the Millspace. The book will retail for $40, but you can pre-order your copy now for the reduced price of $35.

Note: Pre-purchased books can be picked up on November 16, 2026, at the Millspace or on December 15, 2026, at the Grand Opening Ceremony of Newmarket’s 300^th Celebration at the Newmarket Jr Sr High School.
